Who we are

A locksmith business built on one principle

Do the job properly. Charge a fair price. Be honest with people.

AHLP stands for Auto Home Lock Pros. We’re a father and son locksmith business, based in Thornbury in South Gloucestershire. Sam is on the tools — he’s the locksmith you’ll speak to on the phone and the person who comes to your door. Martyn runs the business side.

We set AHLP up because we could see exactly what was wrong with how locksmith services typically work: call centres that pass jobs to the nearest available subcontractor, surprise charges added after the job, call-out fees that made a simple lockout cost twice what it should. AHLP was built specifically to be the opposite of that.

No call-out fee. Fixed price agreed before we touch anything. You speak to the person doing the job. That’s not a marketing promise — it’s how we’ve structured the business from the first day.

Both Sam and Martyn hold the NCFE Level 4 Locksmith qualification — the highest professional accreditation in the locksmith trade in the UK. Most locksmiths don’t hold it. We made it a condition of trading because we believe the people asking us into their homes and business premises deserve to know the person turning up is genuinely qualified, not someone who watched a few YouTube videos and bought a van.

We’re based in Thornbury and cover Bristol city, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and beyond. Response times vary by location, but we’re honest about that too — we’ll tell you the realistic ETA when you call, not the optimistic one designed to get you off the phone.

We’ve been operating since September 2024. A young business, deliberately built to a high standard from the start.

The team

Sam & Martyn

Two people. One family. No subcontractors, no call centres.

Sam

Locksmith & Co-owner

Sam is the locksmith. He answers the phone, attends every job, and does the work. When you call 07700 100146, you’re speaking to the person who will come out. There’s no dispatching, no third party, no one passing your details down a chain.

Sam covers the full range of domestic and commercial locksmith work across Bristol and South Gloucestershire — emergency lockouts, lock changes, UPVC mechanisms, mortice locks, commercial premises, schools and education settings, and commercial lease forfeiture alongside enforcement agents.

Martyn

Co-owner

Martyn runs the business side of AHLP — operations, marketing, client relationships and the commercial structure. He also attends jobs alongside Sam when needed, and holds the same NCFE Level 4 qualification. If Martyn comes out to you, you’re getting the same standard of work. As Sam’s dad, he has a fairly direct stake in making sure the business runs with integrity.

Martyn holds the NCFE Level 4 Locksmith qualification, which means the decisions about how AHLP operates — what we charge, what we promise, how we handle difficult situations — are made by someone who understands the trade from the ground up, not just from a business perspective.

How we work

Four things we decided from day one

These aren’t policies that evolved over time. They were decisions made before the first job was booked.

01

No call-out fee. Ever.

Most locksmiths charge £50–£100 just to turn up. We decided from the start that AHLP would charge nothing to attend. You only pay for the work, at a price you’ve agreed to before we start.

02

Fixed price before we touch anything.

Sam assesses the job, gives a price, and you decide. If you say no, you owe nothing. We never start work without confirming a price first. The number you agree to is the number on the invoice.

03

Honest arrival times.

When you call, Sam tells you how long he’ll realistically take to reach you — based on where he actually is, not the most optimistic number. We’d rather say 45 minutes and arrive in 40 than say 20 and arrive in 50.

04

The highest qualification, not the minimum.

NCFE Level 4 is the highest professional standard in the UK locksmith trade. Most locksmiths don’t hold it. Both Sam and Martyn do. It costs more in time and money than the minimum, and we think that’s exactly the point.
