Yate is a planned town in South Gloucestershire built primarily in the 1960s and 70s, about 12 miles northeast of Bristol — close enough to commute easily, far enough to feel separate. It has one of the largest shopping centres in South Gloucestershire, a rail station with a 20-minute journey to Bristol, and a housing stock that reflects its post-war growth: the core of the town is predominantly 1970s and 1980s estate housing, with Victorian and Edwardian terraces closer to the town centre and station. The wider BS37 postcode also takes in the historic market town of Chipping Sodbury, the villages of Westerleigh, Rangeworthy and Engine Common, and the active Ladden Garden Village development off Leechpool Way.
Yate’s established housing stock creates a specific pattern of callout work. The 1970s and 80s UPVC mechanisms are now reaching the end of their working life — stiff handles, mechanisms that lift and drop without catching, and cylinders that have worn to the point of failure are all common in this era of property. At the other end of the spectrum, the new builds at Ladden Garden Village and Dryleaze often leave the factory with locks that don’t meet British Standard BS3621 and won’t satisfy home insurance requirements without an upgrade.
AHLP are based in Thornbury, around 20 minutes from Yate, and cover the whole BS37 area 24 hours a day.
