Broken key extraction

A snapped key isn’t the end of your lock

Keys snap because they’re worn, the lock is stiff, or both. When it happens, the natural reaction is to grab pliers and pull, but that usually pushes the broken half deeper and damages the pins inside, turning a £80 extraction into a full lock replacement.

Sam uses proper extraction tools to grip and withdraw the broken section cleanly. In the large majority of cases the lock survives untouched and only needs a fresh key cut. If the key snapped because the lock itself is worn or failing, he’ll tell you honestly and quote a replacement before doing anything.

Broken key extraction is one of the most common emergency calls Sam gets across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, and one of the quickest to resolve. Fixed price before he starts, 24/7, no call-out fee.

What we handle

Where we extract broken keys

Wherever a key has snapped or jammed, Sam can usually remove it without replacing the lock.

Front & back doors

Keys snap most often in worn euro cylinders and mortice locks. We extract the broken piece and cut a replacement, or upgrade the cylinder if it’s the cause.

Gates & padlocks

Outdoor locks seize from weather and grit, snapping keys easily. We remove the broken key from gate locks, padlocks and chains and get you back in.

Key jammed but not snapped

If the key is stuck fast but hasn’t broken, we free it without forcing, often it’s a lubrication or alignment issue we can resolve on the spot.

Lock saved where possible

Our aim is always non-destructive extraction. The lock stays in place and you just need a new key cut, the cheapest outcome for you.

24/7 emergency response

Snapped your only key late at night? We respond around the clock at the same fixed price, no premium for evenings or weekends beyond a small out-of-hours supplement, always confirmed first.

Worn lock advice

If the key snapped because the lock is failing, we’ll show you why and quote a replacement upfront, no pressure, just an honest assessment.

Transparent pricing

What does broken key removal cost?

Most companies won’t show you prices. We publish ours. You’ll always get a fixed quote before we start, with no call-out fee, no hidden charges.

All prices include labour. Out-of-hours callouts may carry a small supplement, always confirmed before you commit. We never start work without agreeing a price first.
